<br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />O~~fHI5 <br /> <br />TITLE: <br /> <br />YELLOW JACKET PROJECT <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />December, 1982 <br /> <br />SPONSOR: <br /> <br />Colorado Water Conservation Board <br /> <br />OBJECTIVE: <br /> <br />Evaluate at an appraisal level the engineering feasibility <br />and cost of constructing alternative storage, diversion, <br />and pumping and delivery facilities to develop the water <br />rights held by the Yellow-Jacket Water Conservancy District. <br /> <br />SIGNIFICANT FINDINGS: <br /> <br />o The District owns conditional storage and direct flow rights on the <br />North Fork, that were assumed for purposes of thi s study to have an <br />annual depletion of 80,000 acre-feet per year and a yield of 87,500 <br />acre-feet. <br /> <br />o The 87,500 acre-foot yield can supply 18,000 acre-feet for irrigation <br />in the Little Beaver Creek area, 5,000 acre-feet of municipal supply <br />at Meeker, and 64,500 for industri a1 supply, consi sti ng of 18,000 <br />acre-feet for coal development and 46,500 for shale oil development. <br /> <br />o Of sixteen storage sites evaluated, the Avery, Sawmill Mountain, and <br />Warner Point sites were selected for final evaluation. When these <br />reservoi rs were combi ned wi th requi red del ivery systems, the Avery <br />and Warner Point alternatives were found most feasible, at an <br />estimated cost of about $75 per acre-foot of yield. <br /> <br />SUMMARY OF RECOMMENDATIONS: <br /> <br />o Additional geotechnical information is needed at many dam sites <br />within the .basin. <br /> <br />o The depletion allowable by the Yellow Jacket water rights will have <br />to be determined through legal processes. <br /> <br />o Continued investigation should be made of potential s for joint use <br />projects in the basin, utilizing additional water rights and storage <br />facilities. <br />
