00 14 g~

KANSAS STREAMFLOW CHARACTERISTICS

PART 6A
BASE FLOW DATA

By M. W. Busby and G. W. Armentrout

ABSTRACT

Base flow has been separated from total flow and tabulated in this re-
port for 84 gaging stations in Kansas and adjoining areas. Base flow, as
defined in this report, is the ground-water flow plus the delayed portion of
interflow. Many farms, industries and cities depend on this flow for sup-
plies of water. Thus, base-flow data will help Kanf':ls obtain optimum ben-
efit from its water resources.

As in preceding studies of Kansas streamflow characteristics, short
term streamflow records have been extended by regression with long-term
records to define the base-flow averages suitable for various analyses in-
cluding regional relations, probability distributions, and recession rates.
These analyses will be presented in future parts of this series of reports.

1
