4

STREAMFLOW RECORDS AVAILABLE

The data presented in this report are based on records of streamflow
that have been collected in Kansas and adjoining areas. The locations of
the sites are shown in figure l. An inventory of the years of streamflow
records for these sites is listed in table l. The solid bar indicates the
water years in which streamflow records are available for at least part of
each of the years indicated and for which base-flow data are presented in
this report. A cross-hatched bar indicates the years in which streamflow
records are available but were not analyzed for base flow because of reser-
voir regulation. Sites in Kansas and adjoining areas are listed only where
at least lO years of daily discharge records are available, and where, in
general, the drainage areas are less than 5,000 square miles. Records
shorter than 10 years were found inadequate for analysis for future parts
of this sixth report. The separation of base flow for basins over 5,000
square miles in area involves so many unknown factors that it is beyond
the scope of this report.

The gaging stations are identified on figure 1 and in table 1 by number
if operated by the Kansas district and by letter if operated byoffices of the
U.S. Geological Survey in adjoining States. The numbers and letters are
used to arrange the data at all sites in the downstream order used in the
surface-water reports of the U.S. Geological Survey and are the same num-
bers and letters used in the other reports of this technical series. Addi-
tional information about these sites is subsequently presented.
