<br />, Cosmic dust from outer space may also affect long period <br />Weather 'trends. Volcanic dust may do likewise. There are many <br />tantiilizing clues to follow. And there is also a need for much hard <br />laboratory work, and extensive theoretical analysis by advanced mathe- <br />matical techniques. Behind it all is the hope of vastly improved fore- <br />ca~ti~g on long and short time scales. And if weather control is a <br />realistic hope, this hope can only be realized when the present crude <br />cloud- seeding operations are replaced by careful experiments, analyz- <br />ed scientifically, and conducted on a cooperative basis over large <br />regions and by many research groups;. Man may some day learn to <br />duplicate Nature's rain making processes or at least to find the means <br />to speed or slow down the timing or alter the positioning of storms. <br />If so, the benefits may extend to all corners of the globe, and may <br />make possible far sounder national water usage policies for the <br />future. <br /> <br />8- <br />
