<br /> <br />O~Z506 <br /> <br />'SPRUCE CREEK ADDITION WILDERNESS STUDY AREA <br />FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT <br /> <br />The following material updates and supplements the Draft Environmental <br />Impact State/)1ent for Spruce Creek Addition Wilderness Study Areji which <br />was distrib\.lted in July 1980. It is organized in the same format and <br />the new material is identified by chapter and page number. <br /> <br />I. INn~OUCrrON <br />NO change. <br /> <br />II. AFFECTED ENVIRONMENT <br /> <br />A. RhysicalCharacteristics <br /> <br />;~. Locatable and Leasable Minerals (page 10) <br /> <br />The d.etailed minerals survey identified in the first <br />. paragraph was completed September 8, 1980, by the Bureau <br />of Mines and Geological Survey,U. S. Department of the <br />Interior. The general conclusion of the report is that th~ <br />Spruce Creek Addition Wilderness Study Area ". . .has a lo~ <br />potential for mineral deposits." However, the study did' <br />point out that, through a mapping error, the mine discusse4 <br />as the "Fryingpan Claims" in the report is shown as. being . <br />included in the Study Area. There is no intention of <br />. inclu~ing this claim in the proposed area, nor has there <br />. ever been (see Figure B-1, Eagle-Aspen Unit Plan, which <br />. specifically excludes the claim in question). <br /> <br />B. f*isting and Future Social, Cultural, and Economic Environment! <br /> <br />$, Cultural Impacts (page 12) <br /> <br />The Spruce Creek Area was inspected by a Forest Service <br />parapr;ofessional archeologist. No significant sites <br />.eligible for nomination to or presently listed on the <br />National Register of Historic Places were found. The <br />inspection complies with Section 106 of the National <br />Historic Preservation Act of 1966. <br /> <br />C. Wilderness <br />. , <br /> <br />3.. Geographic Distribution of Wilderness (page 15) <br /> <br />The following changes reflect additions to' the National <br />:Wilderness Preservation System as a result of the Colorado <br />Wilderness Act which was passed in December 1980.
