f

AFFECTING WATER QUALlTYj IMPLEMENTATION
: ,

Activities th'at affect surface- and ground..water
quality and aquatic life have been identified in the
Upper Colorado HiveI' Basin:

. Increased urbanization affetts concentrations of
sediment. nutrients, bacteria, and organic
compounds.
.. Metal mining affects cnncentrations of trace metals
and sediment,
'. Hydrologic InQdifications such as dams, interbasin
water transfers, and channel modifications affect
water quality.
. Nonpoint and point agricultural sources affect
concentrations of nutrients, trace elements,
pesticides, and sediment.
. Natural, agricultural, and mUl1lcipal sourCes affect
salinity.

COMMUNICATION AND COORDINATION

Communication and coordination between V.S, Gep:.
logical Survcy personnel and other interested :scicntists
and waler-mallagenlcnt organizations -are important
components of the NA WQA Program.
