<br />of his Committee are trying diligently to resolve the complex problems. He stated
<br />he was happy that Mr. Eckle. was able to accept the invitation of the Board to
<br />address the meeting, and to bring the members up to date on the Legislative Pro-
<br />grams which are now being 'considered. Mr. Eckle. .tated he hoped they will be
<br />far enough along with the Legislative Study to have the Governor put it on his Call
<br />for the Short Session in January, 1968.
<br />
<br />RIVER ADMINISTRATION AND EDUCATION:
<br />
<br />Chairman Wagner stated that the reception to the new Brochures is excellent, and
<br />feels thcse items will go a long way toward building public confidence in the District.
<br />He felt the Brochures will be the start of a reference library to be used by people
<br />from various walks of life. General Manager stated that the District has received
<br />a number of requests for additional copies of the Brochure. and that those whohave
<br />had an opportunity to see them feel they provide information which was sorely
<br />needed. Ray Broussard, a Reporter for the Gazette Telegraph in Colorado Springs,
<br />was complimentary on the material in the Brochures, and shares the observations
<br />that they will help eliminate a great deal of confusion and misunderstandings which
<br />l:"xist relative to the role of the District.
<br />
<br />,IPPOINTMENT OF DIRECTOR:
<br />
<br />Judge S. Philip Cabibi stated he had received the letter from Secretary Kenneth
<br />Sh,.w requesting that he be relieved of his duties as Director at the October meet-
<br />ing, and the Judge stated he will receive applications and nominations through
<br />Sef.~ember 21. and requested that all correspondence relative to this matter be
<br />fLl.l'warded to the Water Conservancy District Offices. He stated he will carefully
<br />analyze each application and each nomination, and will select a person to fill the
<br />vacancy of Kenneth Shaw who will be able to devote the necessary amount of time
<br />and adequately represent his District.

<br />GROUND BRF.AKING CEREMONY - PUEBLO RESERVOIR:
<br />
<br />General Manager Thomson stated that all details relative to the Formal Ground
<br />Breaking Ceremony for the Pueblo Reservoir. to be held on Saturday, August 26,
<br />were complete. and urged all members of the Board to plan to attend. Mr. Thom-
<br />son also explained a number of water meetings which are scheduled for the next
<br />thirty days, and stated sponsors of each activity are quite anxious that as many
<br />members of the Board, as possible. attend.
<br />
<br />CENTRAL ARIZONA PROJECT:
<br />
<br />President Nichols gave a comprehensive report on the Central Arizona Legislation
<br />which is now being considered by the Congress. He stated the Senate had passed
<br />the Bill. which is contrary to the State Policy, and that unless modifications are
<br />obtained there is little chance of any Water Legislation being approved by this
<br />Session of Congress. Christy agreed with the report, and stated this matter will
<br />be thoroughly discussed at the next regular meeting of the Colorado Water Conser-
<br />vation Board at Rifle. Barkley advised he will not be able to attend the Rifle meet-
<br />ing, and has asked President Nichols to be his proxy at the Executive Session
<br />during which time this complex matter will be reviewed. Af~er general discussion
<br />Mr. Christy moved that this Board reaffirm our total support for the State of Colo-
<br />rado Policy relative to the Central Arizona matter. Motion seconded by Young,
<br />and unanimously carried.
