, '

.

.

, .

The Union Pacific main line track is now planned for relocation
around the south side of the reservoi r i n1 i eu of the previ ous north
side relocation. The existing trackage will be shortened by over 1
mile for a total length of 25.8 miles, as compared to the previous
relocated length of 29 miles. The south route will require three
major river bridges as well as two, and possibly three, grade
separations on the major highway crossings. The relocation plans
have been reviewed with Union Pacific representatives and, as of this
date, tentative agreement has been reached on the a1inement for the
relocated segment of the railroad.

Plans for the relocation of State Highway 144 around the north
side of Narrows Reservoir to connect with U.S. Highway 34 upstream
from the reservoir are under negotiation with the State of Colorado.
Approximately 22 miles of relocated road would be required. Preliminary
contacts have also been made with Morgan County regarding necessary
county road relocations along the south side Of Narrows Reservoir.
Approximately 15 miles of relocated county roads will be required to
provide replacement access for residents south of the reservoir.

Plans to relocate power and telephone lines, oil and gas pipelines,
and a cemetery are unchanged. The small settlements of We1dona, Goodrich,
and Orchard within the reservoir area will be acquired, and the residents
will be provided relocation assistance.

Fish and Wildlife Plans

The fish and wildlife plans have been substantially revised from
those presented in the report of August 4, 1966, by the Fish and Hildl ife
Service. This report is appended to House LJoCUr:,O,lt 320 and has been
supplemented by the Service's October 9, 1969 F'rt which was appended
to the Bureau's May 1969 "Reevaluation. Stateme' 1S revised in
November 1969. The plan is presented in the 1 ' Jefinite Plan Report
(DPR). The curl'ent plan is summarized in a~) "j' 4, 1975,
memorandum from the Fish and I-Jildlife Service Vii: '.h is appended to
this report. The major differences between the DPR and the current
plan are detailed below.

The most significant changes are the acreages recommended for a
wildlife management area and the mitigation requirements.

The 1973 DPR plan recommended a wildlife management area of 15,765
acres together with any associated water rights and appropriate develop-
ment to be'made available to the Colorado Department of Game, Fish and Parks.

6
