I

edaredge in Delta County, so I'm well
f agriculture throughout Delta County

aware of the problems
and in the Fruitland

2
3 I[esa area, the lands under the Fruitland r-lesa Project.

4 How many times in the last couple of years have we

.5 eard the comment, "Let's protect our agricultural land for
6 agriculture."? You can't protect agricultural land for agri-
7 culture by depriving it of the water that's needed to produce
8 agricultural orops. This is a part of the great American
.9 You cannot grow crops in Delta County without an
10 1e supply of irrigat.ion water. The mountains provide this
II rrigation water. If it's not used, it's lost to western
12 olorado, Delta County, Montrose County, and the people who
13deservinq of that use.

I have not thoroughly stUdied the statement. I've
through it, but I have not had time to study it. But
think that the people have studied it, regardless of what it
I am here tonight to put in a plug for the project. I

14
15
16
17

18 hink it's something that is greatly needed by Delta County,

19 1ontrosEl County, the people of this valley.

20 Yes, we want to protect our environment. We love it.

21
22
23

s the lady said, we love the wildlife. We love the life that

live here in this valley. Let's protect our environment,

ut let's not protect it to the extent that we destroy the

nvironment by destroying our agriCUlture and ouragriculturai

ife.

24
25
