4.9

,
! 1 some concern to the people of Colorado, it is not the basis

2 for the economy of this state. We heard with approval a

3 portion of Covernor' I,amm' s Executive Order of September 10,

4 1965, entitled, "Goals and Objectives for Colorado's Long Ran e

5 Growth and Development", as follows: Agriculture is a renew-

6 ableresourca and vital to the state's economy. We must pre-

7 serve and enhance the agricultural component of our economy,

8

and prevent unnecessary conversion of prime agricultural land

9 and water suitable for irrigation to non-renewable uses."

10

The Prui tland l-lesa Project has been studied now for

11

over 30 years.

The Project has been approved by the Congress

12 the President of t.l1e United States, and by successive legis-

13 latures and governors of the state of Cplorado.' The project

14 is one of those eSS<':llltial to. prQserving the rural and agri-

15
16

cultural econony of this state.

It's adverse environmental

impact would be minimal, and, in any event, greatly outweigne

17 by the benefits would accrue from the Project. This Board,

18

therefore, urges the approval of the Draft Environmental

19

Impact Statement as submitted.
MODEn.;l\.TOR: Hr. Hodstrom, so that. the record may be

20

21

quite clear on this pointt you read a statement by, I think,

22
Nr.Felix L. Sparks, the E}u~cutive Dir.."!ctor or the Director

23

of the Colorado Nater Conserva:l:ion Board, Conservancy Board,

24

is that correct?

25

HR.
