<br />A long.recoqnized need of the Uncompdhgre
<br />Proiect was upstre.ml sloraqe of the spring runoff
<br />so that irrilJiltion Woller would still be c1Vailable in
<br />the late SlImmer. The answer was Taylor Park
<br />Dam, localed aboul 30 miles northeast of
<br />Gunnison, Colorado. on the Taylor River (<I
<br />Gunnison River tribulMy). The 206.fool.high
<br />ddlTJ will hold b.1ck if reservoir con lJ.ining 106,200
<br />acre.feel of waler. Taylor PMk Odm was built
<br />during the period 1935 to 1937.
<br />Since the completion of Blue Me~ Ddm in
<br />1965, storage jn its reservoir has been coordinated
<br />with that of TaylOl' PMk 50 as to optimize fish
<br />and wildlife and recreallon benefits.
<br />Presently 67,326 olcres receive irrigation water
<br />from the Uncofflpdhgre Project. The average
<br />per.acre crop value in 1971 was $135.70, with a
<br />loul crop value of $9,13S,904! Since irrigation of
<br />the proiset b6qdn in 19J 2, the total value of .ill
<br />crops grown is $224,031,778.
<br />On the cost side the lotal price for a11
<br />construCled fiJci1ities of the Uncompahgre Project
<br />wan;mly $10,541.560.
