GuOS 4 'I,

The Kansas Forestry, Fish and Game Commission operates a seasonal fish
hatchery at the Webster.Darn spillway stilling basin during the spring
months. Unless absolutely necessary for flood control releases, the
spillway gates are not opened while the hatchery is in operation.

1974 SUMMARY

In 1974, the precipitation at Webster Dam was 60 percent of normal.
The inflow of 21,966 acre-feet was between normal and dry-year forecasts.

During 1974, 15,602 acre-feet were diverted to Osborne Canal providing a
full water supply for irrigation of 6,776 acres. About 11,700 acre-feet
of active storage were remaining in the reservoir at the end of the irri-
gation season. The Webster Irrigation District reports a gross 1974 crop
value of $2,023,607.

During the fall months, water from the spillway stilling pool was fur-
nished to a contractor constructing a cross-county natural gas line
downstream from Webster Dam.

......

-: :.:.

1975 OUTLOOK

.The carryover storage and the flows in the South Fork of the Solomon
River are expected to be adequate to irrigate 6,800 acres io the Webster
Irrigation District if 1975 is a normal year. However, a shortage is
txpecteu under the dry-year forecast.

GLEN ELDER illlIT, SOLOMON DIVISION IN KANSAS

GENERAL

Releases from Waconda Lake will be regulated as required for the city
of Beloit, Kansas and water right administration.

The ivater service contract with Beloit pro-Jides for a normal annual use
of up to 2,000 acre-feet of Waconda Lake storage as measured at the Glen
Elder Dam river outlet works. In any water year that the city's water
supply is insufficient and there is surplus water in waconda Lake, then
such additional water may be delivered to the city at a rate of $15.00
per acre-foot

..,:::~:.-.

'. ;;..

.......
:",<.,

.::::..;~

The available facilities along the shores of Waconda Lake and the large
water surface area afford opportunities to many thousands of people for
picnics, 'sightseeing, recreation, water sports, hunting, and fishing.

When compatible with flood control operations, the operating criteria
for Waconda Lake provide for a stable or rising pool level d1Jring the
fish spawning period each spring.

24
