A status of study report
issued by the Bureau of Reclamation in 19,4 outlines a plan for full
utilization of the water resources of the Animas River for the irriga-

tion of the land of Red Mesa in the LaPlata River Basin.

The project plan of development as reported would provide a supple-

mental water supply for 20,100 acres of presently irrigated land and a

full supply for 4,,920 acres of new land all in Colorado. The project

would also provide water for irrigation of land in New Mexico. Future

municipal and industrial water requirements for the City of Durango have

been provided for in project water supply studies. A feasibility report
is scheduled for release in 1962.

The present and potential stream depletion of streams of the division

for use in Colorado is given in the following Table XXI.

TABLE XXI

Present average annual stream depletion ............ 32,800 Acre Feet

Potential annual stream depletion
for irrigation................
Potential annual stream depletion
by reservoir evaporation......
Potential annual stream depletion
by municipal and industrial

82,700 Acre Feet

2,200

II

II

use........................... 18,200 It "

Total

103,100 Acre Feet 103,100
13,,900 Acre Feet

II

II

Sub-total

-33-
