n~?.~4'2.

REPORT OF COLORADO RIVER COMMISSION OF NEVADA

21

PACIFIC NORTHWEST-PACIFIC SOUTHWEST INTERTIE

The commission was successful in its participation with interests in Arizona
in the inclusion of a 750-kv direct current power transmission line from the
Columbia River to the vicinity of Hoover Dam. For many years analyses have
indicated the desirability of interconnection of power resources between the
northwestern and southwestern states. As the plans for this interconnection
became firm it was apparent that the only way that Nevada could participate
in the benefits of the interconnection would be over the City of Los Angeles'
lines which could be used to move power from the terminal point of an inter-
connection in the Los Angeles area to the vicinity of Hoover Dam.
The Pacific Northwest-Pacific Southwest lntertie, as now being planned
and placed under construction, consists of two 500-kv alternating current
lines and one 750-kv direct current line from the Columbia River southward
to the Los Angeles area, two 345-kv AC lines from the Mead Substation to
Phoenix, Arizona, a DC line from the Mead Substation to Los Angeles, and
of principal interest to Nevada, a 750-kv DC line, 835 miles long, terminat-
ing at the Mead Substation and having a capacity of 1,300 megawatts, to be
operative in 1971.

3,
