The net evaporation or depletion is the gross evaporation less the historical

.

consumptive use of the lands inundated by Trinidad Reservoir. The net evaporation has been

. determined to be 66.83 per cent of the gross evaporation or 32930 acre feet from January 1, 1978

through December 31, 1994. The net evaporation or depletion for the 10 year review period

.

November 1, 1984 through October 31, 1994 is 66.83 percent of the gross evaporation (25420 x

.

.6683) or 16988 acre feet. If this volume of water is considered a Project depletion and added to

.

the Trinidad gauge, then the flow at the Thatcher gauge is 72.23 per cent of the flow at the

Trinidad gauge compared to 71.36 percent for the IO year period prior to Project operations.

.

Therefore, depletions in the Project area have not increased as a result of the Project.

..

Although the depletions as measured at Thatcher are actual depletions to downstream

Purgatoire River flows, they are not necessarily depletions to Arkansas River flows due to water

.

exchanges between Trinidad Reservoir and the Las Animas gauge on the Arkansas River

. upstream of the John Martin Dam and Reservoir. A total of28252 acre feet of water has been

,

exchanged into Trinidad Reservoir from May of 1980 through October 31, 1994 and 8489 acre

feet of that amount was exchanged during the 10 year review period November I, 1984 through

..

October 31, 1994. If the exchange amount of 8489 acre feet during this 10 year review period

J

was added to both the Trinidad gauge and the Thatcher gauge to reflect the Project effects to the

Arkansas River at John Martin Reservoir, the volume of flows at the Thatcher gauge would have

-I

been 72.61 percent of the flow at the Trinidad gauge compared to 71.36 per cent for the 10 year

,

period prior to the Project.

The content of Trinidad Reservoir was 25200 acre feet on November 1, 1984, the

J

24

J

J
