Metropolitan Water Supply Investigations - Phase II Plan of Study
7/5194 4:17 PM

Page 16

8. Sub-Task 4h: Assessment of Treatment Technologies

a) Purpose:

Compile existing information on appropriate technologies for treating effluent
for effluent management purposes. Assess treatment effectiveness, relative
costs, potential for future implementation.

b) ttpproach:
Interview representatives of Metro Wastewater Reclamation District, Colorado
Department of Health and U. S. Environmental Protection Agency to compile
list of treatment technologies.

Review and summarize existing information (reports, literature, unpublished
studies) and assess appropriate treatment technologies (e.g. rapid inftltration
basin technology).

Summarize levels of effectiveness and costs for the various technologies
available. Develop criteria to compare the effectiveness of technologies.

c) Output:
Summary memorandum documenting the investigation of available
technologies which represents, in an understandable way, the alternatives
available to provide effluent of an acceptable quality for potential identified
uses. Develop a comparison of the various alternatives, including both
quantitative (costs, water quality parameters) and qualitative (technological
limitations, success of existing applications) considerations.

d) Sub-Task Leader: Lee Rozaklis

9. Sub-Task 4i: Analysis of Surface Storage Opportunities

a) Purpose

Inventory the availability of storage in existing reservoirs and compile
information regarding downstream storage potential within the study area. (If
we are to look at the potential for interruptible supply agreements on the west
slope, then the study area should probably include west slope storage
reservoirs. )
