Principal Investigator: <br /> <br />William R, Elmblad <br />Colorado Division of Wildlife <br />711 Independent Avenue <br />Grand Junction, CO 81505 <br />(303) 248-7178, Ext. 187 <br />FAX (303) 243-4611 <br /> <br />III, Project Summary: <br /> <br />The purpose of this project is to use standardized data collection <br />techniques to assess the status and trends in populations of endangered <br />Colorado squawfish and humpback chub in Colorado, Sampling is conducted <br />annua lly for 1 ate-juvenil e/adult Colorado squawfi sh populations in the <br />Colorado, White, and Yampa Rivers; annually for post-larval/Age 0 <br />Colorado squawfish populations in the Colorado River; and every third <br />year for adult humpback chub in the 8lack Rocks area of the Colorado <br />River, Length, weight, and tag data are collected for all late- <br />juvenile/adult squawfish and humpback chubs handled. <br /> <br />IV, Study Schedule: <br /> <br />A, Initial year: 1986 <br />B. Conduct 1 ate-juvenil e/adult Colorado squawfi sh monitori ng in the <br />Colorado, White, and Yampa Rivers by electrofishing. Record data <br />from all Colorado squawfish, check for existing tags and PIT tag new <br />fish. Colorado River - 5 CS captured, I CS observed. White River - <br />13 CS captured, 6 CS observed. Yampa River - 14 CS captured, 2 CS <br />observed. <br /> <br />2, Conduct late-juvenile/adult Colorado squawfish monitoring by trammel <br />netting all backwaters on Yampa River in ISMP reaches. Record data <br />from all Colorado squawfish, check for existing tags and PIT tag new <br />fi sh, One Colorado squawfi sh captured by trammel netting. Water <br />levels in backwaters were very low. Three CS captured by <br />electrofishing in river. <br /> <br />3, Conduct post-larval/Age 0 Colorado squawfish monitoring in the <br />Colorado River, Record habitat data for backwaters and obtain fish <br />
