As we noted a month ago, it was not a busy "water-
issues" session. Most of the water bills and resolutions supported by
CWC have passed and/or enacted into law, The main disappointment was the
"PI" of House Eill 97-1214 (Water Division 3 Ground Water) in the closing
days of the session.

The two appointments (Bob Burr and Betsy Rieke) and one
reappointment (Ray Werner) the Colorado Water Conservation Board were
confirmed by the Senate 34 (yes) 0 (no) 3nd 1 (excused) _ The water
community has had an exceptional year for supported candidates on the
four main Stat~ Water Boards/Commissions - 100%.

In terms of the summer ,and fall of 1997, the Colorado Water Congress
will be especi~lly busy with involvement in Senate Joint Resolution 97-
033 (water & larid study). A copy of SJR 97-033 is printed on pages 5 and
6 of this repor~. As soon as the Legislature's interim committee is
appointed and the schedule of meetings is available, the readers of this
report will be informed. It should be noted in passing that the subjects
noted in SJR 97~033 will be given special attention at CWC Summer
Convention in steamboat Springs on August 22 and 23. Please call, fax or
write for a copy of the convention program materials;

Those individuals that are interested in serving on the 1997-98 CWC
State Affairs (legislative) Committee or on the CWC Federal Affairs
Committee should complete the enclosed form and return it to the CWC
office by no later than noon, Friday, June 20, 1997.

In terms o~ 1997 water legislation passed by the Legislature and
signed (where appropriate) by the Governor, CWC will publish in early
July its book containing all water and water related laws. This book
will contain the' complete "final" status sheets of all bills, plus the
"::inal" index of all bills introduced. This latter feature will be a new
addition to this valuable book. Since this book is 100+ pages in length;
and paper, printing, postage and labor are significant costs, the price
of the book is $50 (Cwe members) and $100 (non-members). Furthermore,
since there will'be only 25 copies of this book available, distribution
will be governed in order of requests. Readers are urged to place their
order for the "1997 Colorado Laws Enacted of Interest to Water Users" as
quickly as possi~le - call, fax or write the Colorado Water Congress,
1390 Logan Street, Suite 312, Denver, CO 80203, or phone 303/837-0812, or
fax 303/837-1607. (Please include sales tax, if applicable.)

Finally, it should be noted that there. are no proposed
constitutional amendments on water as of this date; however, this can
change,

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us,
