. .'1

specialists, and extensive input from the public, the COE has attempted
to evaluate all reasonable sources for meeting the Denver metropolitan
area's future water demands. In reviewing the vast array of possible
water sources, the COE grouped them into three categories. Some have
been - evaluated and rejected, some have been selected for inclusion in
the alternative water supply scenarios discussed in appendix 5, and
some have been selected for site-specific analysis. Appendix 4 is thus
divided into three sections labeled 4A, 4B, and 4C:

Appendix 4A Water Sources Not Selacted for Use in Alternative
Scenarios

Appendix 4B Water Sources Selacted for Use
Scenarios

in Alternative

Appendix 4C Water Sources Selected for Site-Specific Analysis

This fact sheet describes the costs, water yield, engineering, and

institutional issues and analyses of those non-site-specific water

sources that are used in formulating alternative supply scenarios for

technical appendix 5. The criteria for evaluating these sources

centered on determining costs and yields.

Step one determined whether the water source could provide a new

yield to the existing supply. The determinat ion of a potent ial new

yield considered issues such as seniority, transfer, and acquisition of

water rights.

Step two considered the technical feasibility and practicality of

the water source as a municipal water supply. Even though a water

source may be technically feasible, it may be impractical as a munlci-

3
