.,

The wster sources on the West Slope are shown in figure 1. The water
sources on the Eaat Slope are shown in figure 2. The scope of this
technical appendix is to present the engineering descriptions, environ-.
mental analyses, and institutional issues on the water sources. Two
levels of detail are p"resented for the analysis of the water sources;
both levels represent systemwide detail. The level of analysis applied
to each water source is based on the level of information availsble,
particularly in regard to engineering, cost, yield, and ope rat ional
characteristics. The basic premise is the greater the detail available
on the description of the project, the greater the degree of environ-
mental analysis and the more specifically the institutional issues can
be identified.

REPORT ORGANIZATION

Technical appendix 4B consists of a syllabus, a general introduc-
tion, the methodology, a resource overview, and eight chapters describ-
ing the nature and consequences of developing the water sources. The
chapters are divided into project descriptions, environmental analyses,
and institutional issues. The project descriptions provide information
on the engineering components of the projects, Including costs, yields,
and implementation schedules, as appropriate. The environmental
analyses describe the environmental resources of the study areas, .the
potential impscts the projects would have on those resources, and
mitigation options and a range of costs to mitigate those impacts. The
institutional issues included in each project chapter are those that
are likely to pertain only to that project but are not necessarily the
only institutional concerns a project would be required to address.
Descriptions of frequently required permits and approvals are provided
within the institutional issues section of each chapter.

5
