<br />. <br /> <br />,. <br />. <br /> <br />Estes Park Aqueduct and Power System <br /> <br />Estes Park Aqueduct and Power System now under construction extends <br />from the dam at the east portal of the Alva B. Adams Tunnel to. Estes <br />Power Plant. The 1.3-mile Aspen Creek Siphon extends from the dam at <br />the east portal of the Alva B. Adams Tunnel to the west portal of the <br />Rams Horn Tunnel. It is a 10.75-foot diameter reinforced-concrete con- <br />duit buried in a trench excavated from solid rock. Its designed capa- <br />city is 550 second-feet. The Rams Horn Tunnel, which was practically <br />completed in September 1947, will connect the Aspen Creek Siphon with <br />the Marys Lake Penstock. It is .a'lO-foot diameter horseshoe-shaped tun- <br />nel 1.3 miles long. Its designed capacity is 550 second-feet. The Marys <br />Lake Reservoir, created by the construction of two dikes, will ~e a regu- <br />lating reservoir for Estes Power .Plant. Prospect Mountain Conduit, 0.6- <br />mile long, will be the. connecting link between the outlet to lAarys Lake <br />and Prospect Mountain Tunnel. It is a 12.5-foot diameter reinforced-con- <br />crete conduit buried in a trench excavated from solid rock. Its designed <br />capacity is 1300 second-feet. Prospect Mountain Tunnel, 1.0-mile in <br />lengtb, extends from the east end of Prospect Mountain Conduit to the Estes <br />Penstocks. It is a 12.5-foot diameter circular tunnel reinforc.ed-concrete <br />lined. Its designed capacity is 1,300 second-feet. A surge tank is located <br />in the Prospect ~ountain Tunnel about 200 feet from the outlet portal im- <br />mediately above its center.line. It is 50 feet in diameter and 95 feet <br />high, lined with reinforced concrete and connected to the tunnel ~ith an <br />8-foot diameter orifice. Three 78-inch diameter penstocks, approximately <br />0.8""11lile in length, will extend from the outlet portal of Prospect Mountain <br />Tunnel to the turbines in Estes Power Plant. <br /> <br />Granby Dam and Dikes <br /> <br />Construction of the Granby Dam, and Dikes on the western slope was <br />begun in the swnmer of 1946 and it is expected that three and one-half <br />rears will be required to complete. the structures. The dam and four dikes <br />are. to be of the earth and rockfill type. The dam crest will be approxi- <br />~ately 240 feet above stream bed and the dam will have a 40-foot crest <br />width and a crest length of about 900 feet. The major upstream slope will <br />be 3:1 and the downstream slope will be 2i:l; both slopes are covered with <br />riprap or dumped rock. The four dikes each have a 30-foot crest width and <br />their total crest length is approximately 6,250 feet. Granby Reservoir <br />formed by this dam and dike s has a surface area of 7,256 acres and.a maxi- <br />mum storage capacity of 546,353 acre-feet. It will provide the storage <br />capacity for the west,ern slope collection system and from it water will be <br />pumped into Shadow Mountain Lake and Grand Lake from which it will flow <br />by ~avity through the Adams Tunnel to the eastcrn slope. <br /> <br />Horsetooth Reservoir <br /> <br />The Horsetooth-Reservoir is located on the eastern slope and is the <br />furthest downstream Foothills Storage Reservoir in the project. It is <br />located about five miles west of Fort Collins, Colorado, and will be the <br />eastern slope storage reservoir for the Cache La Poudre River and its <br /> <br />5 <br />
