Initial Fhase To Be An Independent Development

Revierr of the report discloses Ule fact that the initial phase

of the project does not concern itself rrith the Gunnison River Basin but is

concerned with the transmountain diversion to the Arkansas River watershed

from Frying Pan Creek and tributaries and Hunter Creek, all of which are

tributaries of the Roaring Fork River, and also ,the provision of additional

water in Western Colorado have not been co~pletely determined at this time,

it is not prepared to make any recommendations VQth respect to the avail-

ability of water for large transmountain diversion projects. However, it

is recognized that there is urgent need in Colorado for supple~ental water

supplies in the Arkansas Valle)', particulClrly for domestic and municipal

purposes. lIenee, it ,'!as agreed by the Committee that any action by it on

the initial phase of the Gunnison-Arl,ansas froject should be based on that

phase of this project as an independent development. It was further agreed

that action on the initial phase of the Gunnison-Arkansas Project will in

no manner be construed as a commitment for action on a second phase of the

Gunnison-Arkansas Project or the potential Blue-5outh Platte Project.
