Johnson. Secretary of the Interior Stewart L. <br /> <br />Udall and other Federal and State dignitaries will participate in the cer- <br /> <br />emony. The dam will be dedicated almost 10 years from the day construction <br /> <br />was started--October 15, 1956--with the first blast of dynamite for exca- <br /> <br />vation of the right diversion tunnel. Glen Canyon Dam is the second of <br /> <br />the large Colorado River Storage Project dams to be dedicated Qy the First <br /> <br />Lady. On August 17, 1964, Mrs. Johnson dedicated the completed Flaming <br /> <br />Gorge Dam. <br /> <br />All prime contract work on Blue Mesa Dam of the Curecanti Unit is <br /> <br />completed. The dam contains 3,000,000 cubic yards of earthfill material. <br /> <br />The completion contractor, with a little over one-third of the work fin- <br /> <br />ished, is moving ahead with installation of powerplant and switcbyard <br /> <br />structures. The first of two generators, each with a capacity of 30,000 <br /> <br />kilowatts, is scheduled to go into operation next spring. <br /> <br />Morrow Point Dam and Powerplant are about 65 percent completed. Con- <br /> <br />crete placements are continuing in the dam proper and in the underground <br /> <br />powerplant. Almoat 47,000 cubic yards of concrete were placed in the <br /> <br />block sections of the dam during August, bringing the cumulative total <br /> <br />to 226,435 cubic yards qy the end of the month and raising Block No. 10 <br /> <br />to 270 feet above the streambed. <br /> <br />-' <br />
