No future upstream depletion <br /> <br />of the river which would adversely effect the use of water by <br /> <br />the project area is anticipated. The Model Reservoir is the <br /> <br />only active storage reservoir in the project area and has a <br /> <br />decreed storage right of 20,000 acre-feet annually. Direct flow <br /> <br />water rights on the Purgatoire River below Trinidad total 1,248.75 <br /> <br /> <br />second-feet. Of these rights, 1,168.25 second-feet are held by <br /> <br />irrigators in the project area. <br /> <br />In the administration of the Purgatoire River water by the <br /> <br />State of Colorado, ditches in the project area are very seldom <br /> <br />required to pass water dowstre8l1l to satisfy prior rights on the <br /> <br />lower river. 1'he major portion of the ditches serving the project <br /> <br />area have priorities earlier than even the earliest water right on <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />the main Arkansas River below the mouth of the Purgatoire. Seldom <br /> <br />are water users on the Purgatoire River required to pass water <br />downstream to satisfy Arkansas River rights. <br /> <br />4 <br />
