Farm losses due to deep <br /> <br />percolation and surface waste were estimated as 30 percent of <br /> <br />farm delivery requirements. Canal and lateral losses were <br /> <br />estimated as 30 percent of the headgate irrigation requirement. <br />The canal and distribution systems in the project area consists <br />of one long canal (Model system) and other smaller systems, some <br /> <br />of which irrigate only a few hundred acres of land. Farm losses <br /> <br />were estimated on the basis of soil character and irrigation <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />efficiency. No lateral or farm delivery records are available <br /> <br />for use in determining the historical distribution loss. The <br /> <br />estimate of 30 percent canal and lateral loss was made after <br /> <br />consideration of canal lengths and cross sections, diversion <br /> <br />rates and soil character. <br /> <br />Utilization of the average annual headgate irrigation <br /> <br />requirement for the 1925-l957 study period is as follows: <br /> <br />Table 6 shows estimated crop irrigation requirements and <br /> <br />headgate irrigation requirements for the project area for each <br /> <br />year of the study period. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />23 <br />
