I <br />~'1./~lf <br /> <br />GEOLOGY <br /> <br />The Narrows unit lies within the geologic section of the <br />Great Plains Province known as the Colorado Piedmont. This is an <br />elevated plain classified as late mature, or old, \olhich is drained by <br />the plains portion of the South Platte River. In general the series <br />of formations underlying the Colorado Piedmont is the same as those <br />exposed as hogbacks which parallel the mountains to the west and <br />those found in the Julesburg basin to the east. Rocks older than <br />the Cretaceous Pierre shale do not outcrop in the Narrows unit; <br />hO\olever, all formations down to the Dakota sandstone have been <br />penetrated by exploratory drilling for oil and \olater in the Julesburg <br />basin. <br /> <br />18 <br /> <br />(~( <br />
