.

.

.

h r f"\....t
~11.i (,) {

CONCWSIONS

The following conclusions have been drawn from the analyses
presented in this appendix:

1. The irrigable land resource found along the South Platte
River has historically been chronically short of sufficient
water to satisfy crop consumptive use requirements.

2. The Narrows Dam and Re servoir will permit the storage of
surplus flood flows for use in providing supplemental
irrigation supplies dl~ing period of shortages.

3. In addition to these irrigation benefits, the project will
also provide significant flood and sediment control and
benefits from improved fish and wildlife management and
recreational opportunities.

4. The project yield developed and presented in this appendiX
could be achieved with the criteria assumed for the project
operation study. Additional analyses would be required to
determine yield attainable \olith different operating criteria.
The project yield from the Weldon Valley Ditch direct flow
right is contingent on the purchase of those rights with the
inundated land and upon the sale of this water by the Dis-
trict to ditches just below Narrows Dam.

5. Although not analyzed in this appendix, Narrows Reservoir
could also be utilized to regulate the water supply used
historically to provide more efficient use of the total
water resource.

6. The foregoing analysis was predicated on the use of Jackson
Lake for recreation and wildlife purposes. Should this not
occur but the Jackson Lake storage right transferred to
Narrows, an additional water supply would be realized from
evaporation savings. The net yield from this saving would
be less than the 7,800 acre-feet of evaporation previously
mentioned, since some of the potential saving would be
spilled.

RECOMMENDATIONS

To achieve maximum utilization of the water resource available,
it is recommended that the Conservancy District be urged to take
action in the following areas:

1. Irrigators with direct-flow rights 'should be encouraged to
avoid over-diversion during periods of low consumptive use

11
