<br />0446 <br /> <br />SUMMARY <br /> <br />The Boom Town Financing Study report presents the results of an analysis <br />of public sector financing and housing problems likely to be experienced <br />by Colorado communities impacted by energy development projects (coal <br />mines, electrical power generating plants, oil shale plants, and other <br />synthetic fuel processing plants). The research effort did not deal with <br />possible environment~ or social impacts; it was limited to financial and <br />housing needs of energy-impacted areas in the state. <br /> <br />Uniqueness of Energy-Impacted Boom Towns <br />Energy-impacted communities experience some of the same problems as any <br />other rapidly growing area--private and public services often fail to <br />keep up with demand, school facilities are taxed to capacity, housing is <br />in tight supply and costly. However, energy-impacted areas have addi- <br />tional unique problems. They are usually sparsely populated areas with <br />minimal public services and facilities.
