'j,,',:iR <br />CONSERVATif1W BOARD <br /> <br />1ID~li.\rnii'~rn~'ii' @[f 'ii'oorn n~'ii'rnoon@oo <br />INFORMATION SERVICE <br /> <br />BUREAU OF RECLAMATION <br /> <br />For Release OCTOBER 9, 1957 <br /> <br />MEETING CALLED ON GLEN CANYON RESERVOIR <br /> <br />Considerations relative to initial storage of water and achievement of power, <br /> <br />head of Glen Canyon Dam and reservoir will be explored at a meeting which has <br />been proposed for October 24 in Washington, Secretary of the Interior Fred A. <br />Seston ssid today. <br /> <br />Assistant Secretary of the Interior Fred G. Aandshl has sent letters to <br /> <br />governors or agencies of the Colorado River Basin States sdvising them of the <br /> <br />meeting. The Basin States are Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, <br />Nevada and California. <br /> <br />Secretary Aandahl said several agencies have expressed an interest in the <br />future operations of the Colorado River, particularly during the time Glen Canyon <br />reservoir is filling. Glen Canyon Dam is nolY under construction as the ploincipal <br />control structure of the Colorado River Storage Project. It is on the Colorado <br />river in Arizona a few miles below the Utah-Arizona boundary and upstream from <br />Lee's Ferry, which is the dividing point between the upper and lower basin. Glen <br />Canyon reservoir will have a maximum capacity of 28,000,000 acre-feet. <br /> <br />The meeting will be primarily concerned with a working hypothesis and <br />related assumptions snd premises as to stream flolYs and water uses. These will <br />involve the best judgment of the Bureau of Reclamation as to how Glen Canyon Dam <br />and reservoir would store sufficient water under average streamflow conditions to <br />attain initial storage and power head. <br /> <br />This information has been prepared in connection with required submittal to <br />Congress of payout and other related financial studies concerning the project. <br /> <br />Secretary Aandahl's letter to Governor Knight of California follows and <br />similar letters vlent to the other Colorado River Basin States: <br />
