While the CRDSS is
still very early in the planning stages and its implementation still subject to many funding
decisions, the design of the Planning Model should prudently anticipate its future integration
into the CRDSS.

Development of the Planning Model will try to anticipate this future integration in three
ways. First, the underlying the Planning Model will be configured to correspond as closely as
possible to the physical network of river reaches and tributaries that comprise the Gunnison
River basin. This correspondence will enhance the ability of georelational functions of the
CRDSS to communicate with the Planning Model.

Second, the input and output data structures created and/or referenced by the Planning
Model's user interface will be designed to facilitate low-level access independent of the user
interface. This access will enhance the ability of future CRDSS user- and data-interface
programs to communicate with and manipulate the operation of the simulation component of
the Planning Model.

Third, the Hydrosphere design team will stay in communication with the CRDSS team to
keep abreast of CRDSS developments that suggest additional or alternative directions for
Planning Model development efforts.

23

ii

/J",FlOMmlJf\OO1\AJNCPICIOIIl'T1Il'EC,OOC ...r.,__ 3, unt:l1..... ,(1'''...'0..... 2lI, "n ,,,n_

; .'"'
.fu. .,1-_~. ii... ~ ;Li.~

.".
