Dolores Water Conservancy District - A draft repayment contract

between the District and the Department of the Interior was approved

on October 21, 1976. This proposed repayment contract has been

reviewed by the Commissioner's staff and returned to the Regional

Director with suggested changes and inclusions. These changes have

been incorporated, reviewed by District officials, and will be

officially approved as to form prior to April 1, 1977. Following

the filing of the final EIS with CEQ for a period of 30 days the

proposed repayment contract will be returned to the Commissioner's

office for submittal. to the Secretary of the Interior for approval,

Following Secretarial approval the contract will be executed by

District officials and the Regional Director, This could be

accomplished prior to May 1, 1977, provided that National Enviro-

nmental Policy Act compliance has been met.

Terms of the proposed repayment contract were approved on February 8,

1977, by a general election of the Conservancy District residents,

This election substantiated the overwhelming local support for the

Dolores Project by approving the contract by a 20 to 1 margin,

Cortez, Colorado - Approval of the City Council to petition District

officials for the sale of 6,200 acre-feet of municipal water has

been completed, An ordinance to approve such a petition is presently

being prepared. A formal petition will be completed as soon as the

contract between the District and the l]nited States has been

signed and approved.

Dove Creek, Colorado - Same as Cortez, except that the purchase of

water would be 600 acre-feet.
