The appropriations requested for fiscal <br />year 1978 will bring the total amount. appropriated to $33,782,000. <br />Legislation for additional appropriation ceiling will be recommended <br />at an appropriate time. <br /> <br />Environmental <br /> <br />1, Extent of significant adverse impacts: <br /> <br />a. Agricultural and forest land eliminated from production <br />or potential production: <br /> <br />(1) Crop land type: Dry cropland used mostly to grow <br />pinto beans plus a small amount of small grain, <br />principally winter wheat; number of acres ~ 1,218 <br />acres removed from production and 27,860 acres con- <br />verted to irrigated cropland. Irrigated cropland <br />used for hay and pasture; number of acres ~ 2,324 <br />removed from production. <br /> <br />. (2) Range or grazing land type: primarily semi-desert <br />perennial grasslands mixed with forbs and shrubs; <br />number of acres - 1,593 removed from production, and <br />7,500 converted to irrigated cropland. <br /> <br />(3) Forest type: montane forest characterized by open <br />stands of ponderosa pine usually with a grassy under- <br />story; number of acres ~ 72 now used almost exclusively <br />for grazing with a forage production of 5 to 20 <br />acres per animal unit month (ADM). <br /> <br />Brushland, pinyon-juniper woodland consisting of pinyon <br />and juniper stands intermixed with mountain shrubs such <br />as scrub oak; number of acres ~ 6,390, productivity <br />some fence posts are harvested but grazing is the <br />greatest use, producing from 10 to 20 acres per ADM. <br /> <br />(4) Not Applicable <br />
