It is of intorest <br />that all rights of way were convoyed to the District at no coat for land. <br /> <br />On October 21, 1969 the plan8 and specifications were approved by Soil <br />Conservation Service. By this time 'the project had been increased in <br />size and scope with inclusion of the West Branch adding two and one-half <br />miles of excava tion and it wao decided tha t structures would have ta be <br />included ao part of the project. The project wae advertised in October <br />Ilnd a bid opening held November 7. The low bid WIlS approximately $150,bOO <br />Ilnd far exceeded available fWlds of $84,000 from Agricultural Stabilization <br />Ilnd Conservation Service and $25,000 from the State of Colorado; hmiover, <br />it ,;as decided to proceed ,dth construction to the cxtent available <br />funds would permi t. . <br /> <br />Non-rcsident land 0,mer6 caused a delay in acquHlllg the rights of way <br />Qnd construction was not started until December 3. 1vorle 'illS hal ted on <br />Janual:y 6 by a stop work order because of excessive frost. Work re- <br />cODlmenced on February 28 and the project 'illS completed by the contractor, <br />J. D. Dye, on June 6, 1970. A total of 133 construction daye ""'s ueed, <br />well within the time allotted by the constrnction contract. <br /> <br />Supplemental grants were made in 1970 by Agricultural Stabilization <br />and Conservation Service for $55,000 and by the State of Colorado for <br />$20,000. This provided funds for completion of the project and addi tion <br />of other ,{ork which should result in a decrease in future costs of <br />operation and maintenance. <br /> <br />2. Work Done to Complete the Project <br /> <br />An account of the work done and itemization of thc costs ie presented <br />in detail in the next section of this report. It is interesting to note <br />that in drain excavation alone 362,850 cubic yards of dirt were moved. <br />1Hth str.uctures, field drops, ditches and side drainage an cstimatod <br />total of 1.100,000 cubic yards of material '>'6s cxcavated. Approximately <br />5000 feet of metal pipe ~16e insta lled which varied in size from 12 to <br />48 inch diameter and over 1000 cubic yards of riprap was installed at <br />bends and pipe entries. <br />
