Curiously, while habitat has <br />increased. snail numbers have not had a correlated increase. The lack of increase in snail <br /> <br />numbers may be associated with soil moisture rather than the amounl ofhabital available. The <br />discharge from the spring at Vasey's Paradise was lower in 2003. and the habitat was also visited <br />by bighorn sheep. Tramping by sheep may have been a contributor 10 lower snail numbers <br />recorded for 2002. <br /> <br />Alluatic Resources <br />Aquatic resources continue 10 undergo review ofmcthodologies and historic data and <br />incorporation of new methods into monitoring the sport fishery. nalive fish communities. food <br />base. and water qualily monitoring. Protocol review panels were held for the water quality <br />program (Ruane et al.. 2001). Ihe Lees Ferry trout fishery (Cuh-er et aI., 2000) and for the <br />aquatic program (Bradford et al.. 2001). \\'hich includes the mainstem fishery downstream of <br />Lees Ferry. and the aquatic food base program a syslem-wide perspective. Recommendations <br />made for the native and non.native fishery programs have included increasing random sampling <br />efforts. slrengthening elTorts associated with integration across disciplines and developing <br />modeling etYorts. <br />The water quality program is in the process of incorporating recommendations inlo a <br />re\-isi."ti program. and the downstream fishery and food base program is also incorporating panel <br /> <br />CiC\tRC FY2005.."!OO6 Drali Annual Work Plan lSo\"em~r 10.2003) <br />
