The C-BT Project delivers about
230,000 acre-feet of water annually to northeastern Colorado for agricultural, municipal,
and industrial uses. The water is used to help irrigate 61 S ,000 acres of northeastern
Colorado fannland and supply 30 cities and towns. Twelve reservoirs, 3S miles of
tunnels, 95 miles of canals, and 700 miles of transmission lines comprise the complex
collection, distribution, and power system. The C-BT system spans 150 miles east to
west and 65 from north to south (Figure 2).

West of the Continental Divide, Willow Creek and Lake Granby collect and store the
water of the upper Colorado River. It is pumped into Shadow Mountain Reservoir where
it flows by gravity through Grand Lake. From there, the 13. I-mile Alva B. Adams
Twmel transports the water under the Continental Divide to the East Slope.

Once the water reaches the East Slope, it is used to generate electricity as it falls

almost Y, mile through five power plants on its way to Colorado's Front Range. Carter

Lake, Horsetooth Reservoir, and Boulder Reservoir store the water. Upon reaching

Flatiron Afterbay at the end of the foothills power system, the water is either pumped to

Carter Lake Reservoir for use in the Little Thompson, Saint Vrain, Boulder, and South

Platte Valleys to the south, or directed northward to the Big Thompson and Poudre

Valleys. Water pumped to Carter Lake Reservoir is subsequently transported southward

via the supply canals or returned to the afterbay via the Flatiron Power and Pumping

Plant District allottees north of Flatiron Afterbay are served by the Horsetooth Feeder

Canal, Horsetooth Reservoir, Dixon Feeder Canal, and the Charles Hansen Supply Canal

and Windsor Extension, and North Poudre Supply Canal and Diversion Works.

6
