FUTURE ACTIVITIES

.

The salinity contributions from the basin will be monitored through-
out continued planning and during and after construction to verify the
salinity reduction effected by implementation of the unit.

.

<.

Feasibility studies on Uinta Basin Unit are continuing. The plan
will be refined as plan formulation and evaluation continue. The Regional
Director's proposed feasibility report and draft environmental statement is
scheduled for review by other agencies during 1983. Following this review,
the feasibility report and final environmental statement can be completed
and the Secretary of the Interior could request authorization for construc-
tion. Under current schedules, the Secretary's report could be forwarded to
Congress in December 1985.

If, based on the Secretary's report, Congress authorizes the unit for
construction, advance planning studies will be conducted beginning in 1987.
Advance planning is expected to take about 2 years. During advance plan-
ning, costs and designs for the recommended plan would be refined and other
options would be considered if new studies prove other alternatives to be
more cost-effective. Operation, maintenance, and replacement contracts
would be negotiated and signed with the present water users to assure that
the new facilities would be operated and maintained efficiently.

Based on the schedule for these activities, construction on the Uinta
Basin Unit could begin in 1989. Construction would occur in stages and
would be completed in about 9 years.

"

i "l,- l ':' '"
, ,- - ., I v

24
