The ground water would be
pumped from existing wells and exchanged
for 11,400 acre-feet of Colorado River
water.

Cibola Valley Irri2ation District and
BarQuahala Valley Irri2ation District

Purchase Cibola District lands and
water rights as described above and
purchase an estimated 3,800 acres of land
and 11,400 acre-feet of water rights from
Harquahala Valley Irrigation District
lands currently irrigated wi th CAP and
ground water.

BarQuahala Valley Irri2ation District
Only

Purchase an estimated 10,000 acres of
land and 30,000 acre-feet of water rights
from Harquahala District lands currently
irrigated with CAP water and ground
water.

IIhat's Next?

Following review of the report, the
cities notified Reclamation they felt the
report provided a basis for continuing
the study.

The ci ties requested that the planning,
studies focus on the water rights sources
that involve the Cibola Valley Irrigation
District, the Hohave Valley Irrigation
District, and the Hillander "c"
Irrigation District in appropriate
combinations. If, after further analysis
and consultation with the cities, it is
determined that combining these first
priori ty water rights sources fail to
develop the full 30,000 acre-foot water
supply, the cities would like the
Harquahala Valley Irrigation District

, ~":',, C," ~ ,~_

water right source considered alone or
in combination with their first
priority water rights sources. At the
time of this printing, meetings' were
being held with the Cities to establish
a new date, possibly late November
1989, for the cities to decide to
continue the analysis or withdraw all
of their contributions from the Cliff
Dam escrow account.

Because no formal agreements have been
reached with any of the irrigation
districts and landowners, meetings will
continue to be held with them to
determine their interest in selling all
or a portion of their water rights.
During the next six months, staff from
Reclamation will be conducting field
trips, identifying potential "willing"
sellers, conducting land appraisals,
preparing design and cost estimates,
and initiating the detailed social,
economic, and environmental analyses of
each of the proposals. Resul ts of
these studies are tentatively scheduled
to be presented to the Cities in late
September 1989.

Public Involvement

As part of the Public Involvement
Program, opportunities for your input
into the planning process will be made
available through newsletters, public
mee t ings, and response forms such as
the one attached to this newsletter.
If you would like to comment on the
Cliff Dam Replacement lIater Supply
alternative water rights proposals,
please complete and return the enclosed
response form.

Requests for Information

If you have any comments or need
additional information on the Verde
River Safety of Dams Study, the Verde
River Flood Control Study, or the Cliff
Dam Replacement lIater Supply Study, you
may also write to Reclamation's Arizona
Projects Office, 23636 North Seventh
Street, Phoenix, AZ 85068.

5
