IMPLEMENTATION

A. Availability of system model

The system model was developed using the UNIX Prelude
Spreadsheet Program. This program should be available on
all soil conservation service UNIX computer systems. To use
this program, the fOllowing data is needed:

Monthly water supply values, including direct diversion,
reservoir releases, and groundwater pumped.

Conveyance efficiency of the distribution system and
percent of flows which returns to the river as surface
flows.

Area irrigation.

crop distribution.
On-farm irrigation efficiencies.

Percent of return flows which go to deep percolation.

Quality of the surface and groundwater.

Area of phreatophytes and ET rates for the
phreatophytes.

crop irrigation requirements.

copies of the base water budget can be obtained from the
Colorado state Office of the Soil conservation service.

Availability of the river model.

Copies of the Soil Conservation service version of the USGS
Arkansas River Model can be obtained from the Colorado State
Office. The FORTRAN program code and the compiled program
is available. To run this model, a 386 or higher DOS
computer system with at least eight meg of memory is needed.
In addition, LAYHEY 77 FORTRAN must be loaded on the system.

copies of the USGS input files required to run the model are
available.

B. Other data needs

To justify project action in any of the irrigation systems
studied, additional information will be needed. The river
model indicates that irrigation improvements will make
