t-
~
C'!

Coal mines are common in the Grand Hogback over a distance of

man,y miles and Ii mine can be opened up almost anywhere in such formation

at small expense. The coal is of fair quantity. The total estimated

cost of acquiring all land improvements and coal rights required for

project development is $60,000.

The reservoir would flood about 4 miles of roads, the principal

part of which is the highway leading through Rifle Gap to Rifle State

Park on East Rifle Creek. A second minor highwa,y leaves this road at

the head of the Gap and runs up West Rifle Creek. A relocated state

Park Highwa,y would cross Rifle Creek about one mile below the dam,

climb the east side of the Gap to the top of the dam and continue on

. .....ef1>-I_.~~
the east side of the reservoir whiea ie above high water --.a. for a

distance of 2 miles where it would cross East Rifle Creek and join the

present road. There are two alternate routes for the road up West

Rifle Creek. One route would leave the new main rQad at the east end
~ II.... ~
of the dam, whiSH it ~eelQ ep88~, then continue up the west side of

the reservoir for a mile to the present road. The other route would

leave the new main road where, it joins the present road above the

reservoir and would continue on west above high water level for a

distance of 2 miles to join the present West Rifle Creek road.
