~ fo~ the period 1937-1943 averaged 28.802 acre-feet per year. This
"""
C\J watershed only covers an area of 32 square miles. The average annual

run-off for the period 1937-1943 was 900 acre-feet per square mile of

watershed. East Rifle Creek carries an unusually good Bummer and winter

base flow which seldom drops below 25 second-feet. The run-off of Middle

and West Rifle Creeks is flashy. An estimated 40 to 60 percent occurs

in the two months of May and June.

Water Records

stream flow and canal diversion records used in the preparation of

project water supply studias are available as follows:

stream

Length of Record

*East Rifle Creek

November 1937-0ctober 1943

#Rifle Creak

November 1940-october 1944

--Grass Valley ,Canal

Irrigation season 1937-1944

*The East Rifle Creek Gaging Station is located immeduately upstream
from the head of the Grass Valley Canal. A number
of small dive~sions are operated on all three forks of the creek and
the Grass Valley Canal. a large diversion from East RIfle 'Creek is
operated upstream from the station.
~Diversion by the Grass Valley Canal is measured near the head 8flEI..

,

Reliable information is not available on the diversion of small

ditches and data on diversion by the Grass Valley Canal is only available

:~

for the irrigation months. During the non-irrigation season water is

diverted by the Grass Vall'ey Canal as needed for filling the Harvey Gap

Reservoir.
