<br />l~r ) <br /> <br />" <br />r <br />~ <br /> <br />COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD <br />l02 Columbine Building <br />l845 Sherman Street <br />Denver, Colorado 80203 <br /> <br />October 3l, 1973 <br /> <br />RES 0 L U ~ ~ 0 N <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE DESIGNATION OF WILDERNESS AREAS IN THE <br />STATE OF COLORADO. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, there are now pending in the United States Congress <br />several proposed acts for the designation of wilderness areas in the <br />State of Colorado: and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it has long been the policy of this Board and of <br />many western states that the designation of wilderness areas should be <br />made in accordance with principles of sound wilderness preservation <br />concepts, and not for purposes of impeding water supply development or <br />the attainment of other goals not directly related to the preservation <br />of a wilderness system under the standards set forth in the Wilderness <br />Act of 1964: and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it has long been the policy of this Board to encour- <br />age water resource development without partisan involvement in the <br />resolution of water rights or related controversies, a position this <br />Board now wishes to affirm: <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Colorado Water Con- <br />servation Board in regular session assembled in Denver, Colorado, this <br />3lst day of October, 1973, that it urges the United States Congress, <br />in evaluating the various legislative proposals for the creation of <br />wilderness areas within the State of Colorado now or hereafter pending, <br />to make its determination in establishing boundaries for a proposed <br />wilderness area so as to preserve the greatest number of options for <br />the use of the already limited available water supplies by the people <br />of the State of Colorado: and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of this Board is <br />directed to send a certified copy of this resolution to the Governor of <br />the State of Colorado, to each member of Colorado's delegation in the <br />United States Congress, to the Secretary of Interior and to the Chief, <br />United States Forest Service: and <br /> <br />1027 <br />
