<br />This was the case with Deer Creek Reservoir on the Provo River and
<br />Taylor Park Reservoir on the Gunnison River. Partial evacuation of
<br />Taylor Park Reservoir will assist in flood control on the Lower Gunnison
<br />River and aid in construction operations at Blue Mesa and Morrow Point
<br />dams.
<br />
<br />Other reservoirs under normal flood control operation are Pineview,
<br />Wanship, and Echo reservo irs on the Weber River system, Lemon
<br />Reservoir on the Florida River, and Vallecito Reservoir on the Pine
<br />River. The recently constructed Willard Reservoir on the shores of
<br />Great Salt Lake stored water for the first time as a result of heavy run-
<br />.off from the Weber River system.

<br />. Construction
<br />
<br />Construction of Glen Canyon .Dam and Powerplant, with the exception of
<br />the electrical generating equipment, has been completed. About 90 per-
<br />cent of the work required under the completion contract has been accom-
<br />plished. Four of the .eight generating units in the powerplant are now
<br />producing commercial power. Unit 5 is scheduled to go on the line some-
<br />. time in June. .

<br />The Bureau of Reclamation has released plans to bidders for construction
<br />of a visitor center complex at Glen Canyon Dam. Bid opening date is
<br />June 8.
<br />
<br />In a huge aerial fish planting operation which took place during mid~May,
<br />the rainbow trout population of Lake Powell was increased by 3 million.
<br />The trout were airlifted from national hatcheries to the lake by the Bureau
<br />of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife.
<br />
<br />At Blue Mesa Dam, Cureca.nti Unit, the contractor has resumedconcrete
<br />placement in thepowerplant and earthwork operations, which were shut
<br />down with the arrival of winter weather. Nearly 80 percent of the work
<br />on the dam is completed. Construction at Morrow Point Dam. is nearly
<br />one-fourth complete.
<br />
<br />Crystal Dam, third of the thre.e major dams of the .Curecanti Unit, moved
<br />into the construction stage with award on April 29 of a $936,000 contract
<br />for.construction of an access road leading to thedamsite. Award of the
<br />prime contract for the dam is scheduled for next spring.
