<br />Glossarv of NEPA terms <br /> <br />(CE) Categorical Exclusion: A category of Forest Service actions which do not individually or cumulmively have a significant effect on rhe human <br />environment; and for which. therefore, neither an environmental assessment nor an cnvironmental impact assessment is required. i.e. road easements, <br />or parking lots. <br /> <br />(CER) Categorical Exclusion Review: Actions on the list of categorical exclusions that are found through review not to meet any of the lO <br />exceptions to categorical exclusion, need not be addressed in an EA or EIS. However, a document is produced (entitled CER) that documents all <br />these exclusions and the review process used, and is signed by a responsible official. IBLM only). <br /> <br />(COC) - Colorado Case number: A case number assigned to a patticular project. (BLM only). <br /> <br />(DNA) Determination or NEPA Adequacy: Actions that are covered to some extent in an existing EA or EIS, may not have to be analyzed in a <br />new environmental document. A special repOlt (entitled DNA) is generated stating that the existing documentation is found to be applicable to the <br />action at hand, and is signed by a responsible official (BLM only). <br /> <br />(EA) Environmental Assessment (a)...a public document that serves to: I) provide sufficient evidence and analysis for detelmining whether to <br />prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS) or a finding of no significant impact (FONS!); 2) aid an agency's compliance with NEPA when no <br />EIS statement is necessary: 3) facilitate preparation of an EIS when one is necessary. (b)...includes a discussion of the need for the proposal. the <br />alternatives considered. the environmental impacts of the proposed action and altematives. and a listing of agencies and persons consulted. <br /> <br />(EIS) EnvjronmentallmJlact Statement: A detailed document undeltaken for a major Federal action that significantly affects the quality of the <br />human environment. In an EIS. the affected environment IS described. a proposed action and altematives to the proposed action are presented and <br />effects of the altemati ves are analyzed. An EIS is prepared first in draft form. The draft document (DEIS) is sent out to interested individuals, <br />organizations, and govemment agencies for review.
