Winter precipita-
. tion was well above normal and inflow to Seminoe Reservoir was 190 percent of
average during the October-January period. Storage in Seminoe Reservoir was
about 75,000 acre-feet above plan at the end of January due to above normal in-
flow and releases limited to some extent by maintenance.

As of February 1, the snowpack above Seminoe Reservoir was excellent and fore-
casts indicated that the snowmelt runoff would be better than 170 percent of average.
Transfer of water to Pathfinder Reservoir was continued at capacity of the power-
plant. Seminoe Reservoir was lowered to a seasonal minimum content of 331,000
acre-feet late in March.

(;):iJ

As of April 1, fo.recasts indicated the April-July volume of snowmelt runoff would
be 1,200,000 acre-feet, better than 185 percent of average. Transfer of water to
Pathfinder Reservoir was continued at near capacity of the powerplant. fnflow to
Seminoe Reservoir picked up sharply during the latter part of March and remained.
much above normal thereafter. Inflow to Seminoe Reservoir peaked at 11,100
c. f. s. average for 7 days late inJune. Seminoe Reservoir filled to 980,000 acre-
feet, 97 percent of capacity, by the middle of July. Total snowmelt runoff, 1,185,000
acre-feet, was 184 percent of average.

The total water year inflow was 1,558,000 acre-feet which was 181 percent of
average. Carryover storage in Seminoe Reservoir at the end of the year was
884,000 acre-feet which was much above normal.

Pathfinder and Alcova Reservoirs

Carryover storage in Pathfinder Reservoir was 516,000 acre-feet which at the
beginning of Water Year 1971, was nearly 400,000 acre-feet above normal. Stor-
age in Alcova Reservoir was normal.

Alcova Reservoir was lowered to the normal winter operating level during October
and maintained at that level until March. Pathfinder Reservoir was filled in close
conformance with the most probable plan of operation from October through January.
Thereafter, the reservoir was operated to accommodate reasonable maximum in-
flow conditions. Approximately 100,000 acre-feet of space was reserved in
Pathfinder Reservoir during the runoff period as a margin of safety in the upper
reservoir system.

'.::<~..

Refill of Alcova Reservoir was started in March in order to increase the reservoir
water level in preparation for a test nm early in April. The test run was made to

16

~.:,.'~(..'.;'",,;
:><; ;~'~T '
,:":' . .~::

. .~, . :," .

.~ .:;;; ,;. ....

~.;;k\.~:
t~?::~~<
>:':::.::";.::

, .
~::.?:~:~:
;.....-.

".;-;,',:< :.
.,.:.:,,'.,

:..~.., ,"~ .;;"

.;" .~. ...

",,'0""
.', ,".:.

~ ~ -:":..;:.:':~~:;.
.....
