<br />Rio Grande near Lobatos, Colo.
<br />
<br />~. Location.--Water-stage recorder, 1at 370051, long 105045', in sec. 22, T. 33 N., R. 11 E.,
<br />on right bank just downstream from highway bridge, 6 miles north of Colorado-New Mexico
<br />State line, 10 miles east of Lobatos, and 14 miles east of Antonito. Datum of gage is
<br />7,426.79 ft above mean sea level, datum of 1929.
<br />
<br />Drainage area.--7,700 sq mi, approximately (includes 2,940 sq rot in closed basin in
<br />San LUls Valley).
<br />
<br />Average discharge.--61 years (1900-1960), 643 cfs (465,500 acre-ft per year).
<br />
<br />Extremes.--1899-1960: Maximum discharge observed, 13,200 cfs June 8, 1905 (gage height,
<br />8.1 1't), from rating curve extended above 8,000 efs; no flow at times in 1950-51,
<br />1956.
<br />
<br />Remarks.--Records excellent except those for some winter months, which are fair. Natural
<br />flow of stream affected by transmountain diversions, storage reservoirs, ground-water
<br />withdrawals and diversions for irrigation, and return flow from irrigated areas.

<br />Location.--Water-stage recorder, lat 3603415011, long 106043'30", in Tierra Amarilla Grant,
<br />1.5 miles downstream from El Vado Dam, 2.7 miles upstream from Rio Nutrias, and 13
<br />miles southwest of Tierra Amarilla, Rio Arriba County. Datum of gage is 6,696.12 ft
<br />above mean sea level, datum of 1929. Prior to October 1935, at site 1.5 miles upstream
<br />and October 1935 to September 1938, at site 1.1 miles upstream at different datum.
<br />
<br />Drainage area.--877 sq mi.
<br />
<br />Avera~e dischar~e.--4 years (1914, 1921-23),444 cfs prior to completion of dam; 25 years
<br />(1 36-60), 3 0 cfs (282,300 acre-ft per year) subsequent to completion of E1 Vado Dam.
<br />
<br />Extremes.--1914-16, 1920-24, 1936-60: Maximum discharge observed, 9,000 cfs May 22, 1920
<br />(gage height, 12 ft); no flow Mar. 25, 26, 31, 1955.
<br />
<br />Remarks.--Records are good except those for some winter months, which are poor.
