that would raise a few crops before they became deserts. A
normal year would really boost the national production, a bonan-
za year would - but why dream?

We can buy this production if we wish to pay the price.
In almost every home there comes a time 'of crisis during which
the family savings, even future possibilities, go into the red
at the bank. A nation can go through the same crisis and we
must be realistic and realize that there will be times when sod
,land will, in food crisis, be used in a limited way and for a
limited time, surely not hnger than the old grass roots are
still in the soil. Again we all agree that each individual must
be alert and insist that the exact hazard of soil loss be evaluated
if and when a gamble with our irreparable soil is considered.

In the nekt chapter we will take a plane trip over this vast
-territory, viewing briefly with admiration the natural resources
of this river valley basin. But in the latter part of the chapter
we have a more difficult viewpoint. There is seemingly a jig-
saw puzzle of complicated vegetable and animal life; grass,
timber, birds and animals (big .and small) living together in
what at first glance seems destruction and confusion. With your
valued 'assistance this complicated jig-saw puzzle of confusion
will be put together to form a beautiful picture of balance, de-
velopment, thrift and harmony, a picture of harmonious nature
beyond compare.
