<br />How To Comment on the Draft EIS <br /> <br />In January 1994, the 72-page summary of the <br />draft Glen Canyon Dam Environmental Impact <br />Statement (EIS) will be sent to all on this <br />newsletter mailing list <br /> <br />Public participation has been very important <br />throughout this EIS process, and we encourage <br />your review of the summary and invite your <br />comments, The beginning date of the official <br />comment period will be determined by when in <br />January the draft EIS is filed with the Environ- <br />mental Protection Agency. The comment period <br />will end on April 11, 1994. <br /> <br />The comment period is being extended from the <br />normal 45 days to 90 days. It is essential that <br />you raise all concerns, recommendations, or <br />objections by the close of the comment period so <br /> <br />that they may be thoroughly considered and <br />responded to in the fmal EIS. <br /> <br />To be most helpful, your comments should be as <br />specific as possible and address the adequacy of <br />the EIS or the merits of the alternatives. <br /> <br />Public Hearings on the draft EIS are scheduled <br />for March in Los Angeles and San Francisco, <br />California; Phoenix and Flagstaff, Arizona; Salt <br />Lake City, Utah; Denver, Colorado; and <br />Washington, DC. Why are they being done? When did they <br />begin? Who is involved in these studies? What is <br />their significance? What resources are included in <br />these studies? <br /> <br />Begun in 1982 to determine the extent of the <br />environmental impacts of Glen Canyon Dam opera- <br />tions on the Colorado River resources in the Grand <br />Canyon, the GCES are an integral part of the Glen <br />Canyon Dam EIS process, <br /> <br />The 45-minute GCES video provides the viewer with <br />an understanding of the studies and an awareness of <br />the complex ecosystem of the majestic Colorado River <br />as it flows through the Grand Canyon.
