Rick's Remarks

By: Rick Gold
Assistant Regional Director
Upper Colorado Region
Bureau of Reclamation

We have made a significant effort in this
process to be open, credible, and fair in our
dealings with all parties interested in the Glen
Canyon Dam Environmental Impact Statement
(EIS) , I believe that this effort has entailed
"breaking new ground" in a number of areas for
the Bureau of Reclamation. I am proud of the
collective efforts of the many people involved.

I encourage each of you who are interested in
the operation of Glen Canyon Dam and the
downstream environment of the Grand Canyon
to study the draft EIS and forward your
concerns, recommendations, or objections by
the close of the commend period so that they
maybe thoroughly considered and responded to
in the fmal EIS,

Using all of the comments and work done to
date, we are sure that a well-reasoned and

balanced decision can be made by the Secretary
of the Interior in his Record of Decision at the
completion of this process. The decision is an
important one and will be expected to serve us
well in the years to come, Your thoughtful
comments will greatly assist us in preparation of
the final EIS due in October 1994.

On a personal note, I want to offer one final
"Thank You!" to all who have worked to make
the effort successful, including the EIS team,
cooperating agencies, groups and individuals
with particular interests who have followed the
issues, and to all of you, the general public.
Only through your combined efforts could we
have arrived at this point in the process. With
your continued help, we can bring the effort to
a successful conclusion.

New NEP A Manager Selected for the Glen Canyon
Dam Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)

Mr. Goldy Lind of the Colorado River Studies
Office (CRSO) has been selected as the National
Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Manager for the
Glen Canyon Dam EIS.
