<br />cO <br />cQ <br />.~ All responsible operating personnel should be thoroughly checked out on <br />C'l <br />',.-' the operations of the facilities, including standby methods of <br />\,.., <br /> <br />ITEMS OF SPECIAL IMPORTANCE <br /> <br />operation, and should be indoctrinated on the importance of following <br /> <br />the prescribed operational methods and procedures. <br /> <br />Each time the spillway discharges, the channel downstream from the <br /> <br />spillway should be inspected to determine if erosional damage has <br /> <br />endangered the structure, as described in chapter IV, paragraph 12, <br /> <br />page 11, of the Designers' Operating Criteria (DOC). <br /> <br />The 56-inch-diameter steel outlet pipe should not be entered in the <br /> <br />spring after winter shutdown unless breathing apparatus and an air tank <br /> <br />are used. An alternative is to fill the pipe, as described in <br /> <br />chapter V, subparagraph 14.b., page 12, of the DOC, and then empty the <br /> <br />pipe by closing the 8-inch bypass and opening the butterfly valves. <br /> <br />This procedure will draw fresh air into the pipe and permit safe entry <br /> <br />for examination of the interior coating. <br /> <br />The outlet works gate chamber and tunnel should be properly ventilated <br /> <br />prior to entry, as described in chapter V, paragraph 16, page 15, of the <br /> <br />DOC. <br /> <br />iv <br />
