COLORADO <br />REGION 5 <br /> <br />Month of September, 1950 <br /> <br />&10 Grande Division <br /> <br />Field and office work pertaining to land classification was <br />continued during the month. No time was lost due to climatic <br />conditions. <br /> <br />Exploratory drilling on power sites above Creede, Colorado <br />was practically completed. Invitations for the exploratory drilling <br />of Palisades Dam site resulted in only one bid being received, that <br />of the Jones Core Drilling Company, which is now completing similar <br />work above Creede. <br /> <br />Messrs. A. V. Werner and A. A. Lewis, Regional Office, visited <br />the project on August 28, 1950 reviewing work on the Rio Grande <br />Division and visiting the P1atoro Unit prior to their return to <br />Amarillo. <br /> <br />On August 31, 1950 the Project Engineer attended a conference <br />at Colorado A & M College, Fort Collins to discuss the possibilities <br />of reclaiming lands affected by "black alkali" within the project <br />area. On September 13, 1950 a field trip was made over project area <br />to inspect lands affected by the "black alkali" and to discuss <br />possible means of treatment. <br /> <br />On September 21, 1950 Messrs. Kidder, Denver Office, Arterburn <br />and Werner, Regional Office, Gyllenskog and Redfield of the Project <br />Office made a two day trip to inspect the proposed alignment of <br />canals on the Weminuche Pass Trans-mountain Diversion. <br /> <br />Messrs. Rowland, Regional Office, and Mutz of the Project <br />Office met in Denve r with the Chief, Division of HYdrology to dis- <br />cuss work of the project office. <br /> <br />C1osed.'.Basin Division <br /> <br />Observations of ground water level fluctuations were con- <br />tinued during the month b.Y personnel of the Geological Survey. <br /> <br />(' ,.... fIf "".
